Report: Hey guys. Did pretty good down in martinez this past weekend. a little bit of a cold front came through and made fishing a little tougher than a lot had expected. There had also been a ton of pressure on the fish with the fed-nation there as well as NBW. Witht he cold front in mind and all the pressure, i stayed really close to the launch, i knew martinez could get me at least a limit pretty fast and then i could go searching for bigger fish. we fished tules in about 4-6ft. with wacky rigged senkos. we were surrounded by other boats the entire morning, man there had to be 20 boats in that small area. most looked to be using jigs or t-rigs with no luck. us on the other hand had a limit by 9am. i was planning on leaving when we got a limit but my limit fish was 5.12 and 3rd big fish of the tourny, so we stuck around, basically all day. we culled about 4-5 times throughout the rest of the day. with about 2hrs. left we went to a backwater towards the dam where i had seen some decent fish on beds. i thought they had already been caught and they were, so we fished for about an hour in there and then left. we went to the little backwater right by the weigh in at fisher for the last hour and threw a dropshot around with no luck. with about 25min left i picked up the senko and skipped it under a dock, bam 3 1/2lber. next cast, backlash, picked it out then went to the next dock, dam, 2 1/2 lber...with 6min. left i skip one more dock and...thump my rod bows with a fish at least 4lbs. half way to the boat...slack line. i reel in my senko and the week guard didn't even move, i never even had a hook in her but she just wouldn't let go. that fish would have won us the tournament. anyway, we did good and that was the only mistake we had all day. my partner didn't catch one fish but he was a hell of a netman. in the end, we finished 3rd place with 15.32lbs. and 3rd big fish of the tournament with a 5.12lb. martinez is awesome right now, go fish it.

Tips: keep your line wet and hold on, this is the time of year you can throw whatever your favorite bait is and catch them good.

Report: Hit the Lower Colorado River on Saturday, 2/2/08 for my first Desert Bass Tournament of the season. I had the preveldge of fishing with Mr. Bob La Londe of Yuma as my partner and it was a good thing in that he caught our one and only fish. It was a tough bite. A lot of boats left without weighing in a single fish. We started the morning flipping current without any luck. After about an hour and a half we moved to some back waters where we fished a back point with jigs and dropshot. Again no love. Moved back into another pocket to work a saddle where Bob was able to score on a legal sized bass with a dropshotted green pumpkin/black flake worm. We continued to work the saddle without another bite. From there we ran up river to canal North of Ferguson and the South run of that canal with the same results...nothing. We moved into Ferguson to an area I had been successful in the past and again nothing. Strange thing was that Ferguson was relatively clear, yet you could not see any fish. In fact we only saw one carp. Moved South again to another back water area that had been dredged out and the water was really dirty. Couldn't buy a bite there either. Moved to another clear water canal and tried drop shotting and senkoing the canal. Began finally seeing fish, but they were very spooked and on a few appeared to be barely legal. All it all the company and the weather were great. I had anticipated cloud cover with a low pressure system that was suppose to bring rain into the area. The front must have stalled off the Pacific because the day was warm, blue bird skies with a high pressure system.

Report: Fished Lower Colorado for three days, from 9/27 - 9/29. Found most of my fish in 2 - 8 feet of water in the back waters. Through the fluke most of the time and was getting hit early morning and late afternoon. The senko was productive around tullies just out of the grass. On the first day I was able to get some better fish throwing a Siezmic Frog and Zoom Horny Toad onto mats. The wind picked up on Friday and most of the mats I fished Thursday and Friday were blown out for Saturday. Did find some thicker stuff in some of the smaller backwaters that held decent fish, but low numbers. Spent a lot of time throwing back little 12" and 13" fish.

Tips: Throw the frog under any overhangs if possible and work it back out. If throwing a frog on the mat, jump it in place without moving it forward if possible. The senko was most productive if fished wacky. The better fish came off mats that had a good ledge or drop near the edge of the mats. It only had to be a one foot drop, but it had to be a sharp drop.
