Mud

Mud Lake rests in Jefferson County. The reservoir has 7,200 surface acres.

Largemouth bass fishing is the available to the angler. Also present in the lake are bluegill, bullhead, crappie and perch.

Mud Lake is situated on a major Pacific Flyway for migratory birds like Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans and Ducks of all sorts. In addition, you can see Sandhill Cranes, Blue Herons, and occasionally a few Bald and Golden Eagles. Moose, elk and antelopes are known to be in attendance all year round at the lake.

The Snake River Plain that Mud Lake lies on was formed by volcanism over the ages. After the volcanic activity settled down, prehistoric man hunted on the Snake River Plains. As time went on, the Shoshone and Bannock Native Americans settled the region. Sacajewa, a Lemhi Shoshone was with Lewis and Clark on their voyage of Discovery. Lewis and Clark travelled throughout the central part of the state and become very familiar with the "River of No Return".
